We strongly urge you to use the aftercare that your tattoo artist or piercer suggests you use as aftercare suggestions vary from practitioner to practitioner. While there are many different opinions on what to do and when, you should follow the instructions of whoever you went to for your tattoo or piercing. If they didn't give you any aftercare instructions, you should call them and find out what they suggest. We provide all of our clients with both spoken and written aftercare instructions when the procedure is complete. DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES ASK FRIENDS, FAMILY, STRANGERS, OR OTHER PEOPLE NOT INVOLVED IN THE TATTOO OR PIERCING PROFESSION ON HOW TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR TATTOO OR PIERCING AS THEY ARE NOT TRAINED OR DID NOT STUDY THE BEST TECHNIQUES FOR YOU TO DO. It is now YOUR responsibility to make sure that you are taking good care of your tattoo or piercing and that responsibility includes asking your artist or piercer questions if you are not sure about something. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- FOR PIERCINGS:
Piercings heal from the outside going in, so when a
piercing appears to be healed, in many cases, it is nowhere near done
healing, and sticking to the aftercare provided by the piercer is an
absolute must. If you notice anything happening that you are unsure
of or just want a professional opinion, please contact your piercer right away from first noticing anything...do not allow it to
progress any further, as it might involve a doctor visit/losing the
piercing. Do NOT, under any circumstance, remove jewelry without
consulting with your piercer first. Do NOT listen to your friends,
family, or any other unqualified people when it comes to a piercing
question.
NEVER USE ALCOHOL,
NEOSPORIN/BACITRACIN, BACTINE, OINTMENTS, HYDROGEN PEROXIDE, PIERCED
EAR ANTISEPTIC, OR ANY OTHER HOUSEHOLD REMEDIES NOT SUGGESTED BY THE
PIERCER. ONLY USE WHAT THE PIERCER SUGGESTS YOU USE!!!
TOP THREE MISTAKES YOU NEED TO CORRECT IF YOU'RE HAVING ISSUES WITH YOUR PIERCING:
#1 Provon OR Satin should be the only soap you are using on your
piercing. NO DIAL. NO SOFTSOAP. NONE OF YOUR REGULAR SOAP. This should
be AFTER you take a shower: Soak a q-tip with purified water
(distilled/bottled/PUR bacterial filter), small dab of soap on it,
gently work it underneath each end of the piercing, up against the
skin. Soak up a few cotton balls, and GENTLY rinse the area until it
stops sudsing up. Only a small amount is necessary, these 4oz bottles
should be lasting you 4-5 piercings for the entire aftercare period
(3-6 months, or 6-9 months depending on the piercing). If you have an
oral piercing, BIOTENE, Regular ACT, or Tom's All-Natural mouth rinses
are what you should be using for the inside. NOTHING WITH ALCOHOL.
#2 MILD Sea Salt Soaks are supposed to be frequent. This means 1 to 3
times a day MINIMUM. If you see clear
to light-yellow crust, soak for 15-45 seconds and GENTLY wipe away any
material that's left. By MILD, I mean they shouldn't sting or burn (3
pinches of sea salt to 2 inches of purified water in a dixie cup).
#3 Snagging/submerging/hitting/playing-with the piercing. That's right,
the more you mess with it during the first 2-3 months, the more it's
going to be irritated and possibly migrate (reject). Wash your hands
before you touch the piercing or ANYTHING you soak/cleanse it with, and
you should only be touching it when you're cleaning it. NO submerging
in the Ocean, Ponds, Lakes, Pools, Saunas, Hot Tubs, or Bath tubs.
Jenn`s after care instructions
You should
only be using provon soap and non-iodized sea salt to care for your piercing
(unless instructed by your piercer). If you do a sea salt soak before you wash
your piercing, it will help loosen the crusty formation around the piercing and
make it easier to clean. Dissolve 1/8 to 1/4 teaspoon of non-iodized sea salt
into 8oz of warm water, preferably a clean disposable plastic cup. Make sure
you are not using a stronger solution because it may cause irritation. Seal cup
on area and soak for two to three minutes. If you have a piercing where it is
not possible to seal the cup around it, you can put a few cotton balls in the
cup of sea salt and soak your piercing with the cotton balls. Make sure after
you do your sea salt soak that you rinse your piercing with clean water to
remove all the sea salt. Gently pat dry with a clean disposable paper product.
Sea salt soaks can be done up to five times a day. It will probably be easiest
to wash your piercing while in the shower. When you are finished showering wash
your hands and rinse, put a very small drop of soap in your hands and rub your
hands together to create a foamy lather.Gently wash both sides of your piercing and rinse. Once you have let it
rinse for a few seconds then gently move the jewelry up and down or side to
side to rinse the excess soap out. DO NOT MOVE THE JEWELRY WITH SOAP ON IT!!!!
Only move jewelry when rinsing. For oral
piercings ice and Motrin should help with the swelling. Brush your teeth as
normal but for tongue piercings avoid brushing tongue. Rinse with a non-alcohol
mouthwash. Remember to be gentle with your new piercing you don’t want to
irritate it. NEVER EVER USE HYDROGNE PEROXIDE AND OR ALCOHOL!! ALSO NO OINTMENTS,
MAKEUP AND OR LOTIONS!!!! ALSO NEVER TOUCH OR PLAY WITH YOUR PIERCING WITH
DIRTY HANDS!!!! YOUR HANDS ARE DIRTY UNLESS YOU JUST WASHED THEM!!
